ICD-10 goes live! Early reactions, tips, and more

October 4, 2015

Happy first live ICD-10 Friday! This was a crazy week in the healthcare industry: the long awaited—and for some, dreaded—launch of ICD-10 on October 1 certainly had everyone buzzing. Some said the transition to the new code set went smoothly, while others vented their frustrations online. Healthcare Finance News captured real-time reactions to the switch on its live blog with the help of volunteer ICD-10 correspondents.

While the industry has had a lot of time to prepare for ICD-10, there are more than likely going to be some bumps down the road as claims are processed. If you’re still working to transition to the new code set, be sure to check out ZirMed’s recommendations and free educational tools on our ICD-10 Resource Center.

ICD-10 makes it critical for vendors, providers, healthcare organizations, and payers to embrace the new level of coding detail required to identify and address gaps in our care system. Ken Edwards, our VP of Operations, talks about making ICD-10 “purposeful” in his blog post featured in Executive Insight. He explains the value that ICD-10 will bring to population health management efforts, as well as to the continued financial stability of healthcare organizations.

And in non-ICD-10-related news, our Chief Data Scientist, Paul Bradley, was featured in a Search Business Analytics article titled, “Effective Big Data Visualization Starts with Simplicity.” In the article, Paul gives his take on big data and explains how ZirMed’s team of data scientists approach complex data elements, finding the correlations needed to build and update the predictive models used to check claims.
